Bajaj Auto slipped to the third spot by losing second position to the Honda. Though its only a month, Bajaj is already into the damage control mode. Recently Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto told Money Control that the company is planning to launch 3-4 new products in 2013, which is Bajaj's attempt to regain its lost position.
Mr. Bajaj said, We have several launches lined up for this year. There are at least two new Pulsars- one that will be smaller than the Pulsar 200cc and another that will be much bigger. This is going to help us defend our leadership in this space and that is very important for us. However our main focus will be on the Discover brand and segment. The launch of the Discover 100T in January and our ability to sell 25,000 - 30,000 units a month had given us a new foothold in the commuter segment because it is for the first time in our history that we are selling units of a 100cc motorcycle in such large numbers.
Bajaj Pulsar is Pulsar 375 which is based on the KTM Duke 390 is likely to make a great impact. While the other Pulsar series bike, which is said to be a sub-200cc bike, is still under the wraps. Bajaj has a full-fledged line-up of bikes at the moment and no spot is vacant in the sub-200cc category. So, it might be a new 150cc Pulsar family bike boasting the same design that of the Pulsar 200 NS. The bike will compete with upcoming Honda CB Trigger and other 150cc bikes like Yamaha FZ series. The new bike will be sold parallel to the existing Pulsar 150 and it might feature some of the first in class features.
