Avis and Effie Hotchkiss: Avis and Effie Hotchkiss were mother and daughter. In 1915, they rode from New York to California to attend the San Francisco World�s Fair on a three speed V-twin Harley Davidson which made them the first female riders to cross the United States. In 1817, Karl von Drais, a German baron, invented a horseless carriage that would help him get around faster. The two-wheeled, pedal-less device was propelled by pushing your feet against the ground, The machine became known as the �draisine,� and led to the creation of the modern-day bicycle. The term �bicycle� was not introduced until the 1860s, when it was coined in France to describe a new kind of two-wheeler with a mechanical drive. Gottlieb Daimler was an engineer, industrial designer and industrialist born in Schorndorf, in what is now Germany. He was a pioneer of internal-combustion engines and automobile development. Slick tires offer more grip on wet roads than treaded tires, up to the point at which they hydroplane. The slick tires have more velocity with a minimum about of effort. They have more grip than other tires when on asphalt, and other hard, even surfaces. Slick tires sometimes have a V-shaped grip pattern which helps on wet roads. Because they have limited groves in the tires, water doesn't get trapped in the tire which normally causes hydroplaning. Up to 25 per cent of bike theft claims are fraudulent.
