SANTI

Drought, a scourge of humanity, makes living impossible for farmers, destroying land, men and farm animals alike. With the death of cattle, and lack of water for irrigation, ploughing barren fields becomes futile. But not for Mr. Mansukhbhai Jagani an ordinary, not well educated farmer in Mota Devaliya village, Amreli district, in Gujarat who proved that where there is a will, there is a way.    Sant i Using his old motorcycle, the farmer developed a machine system called Santi for small farm holdings, complete with attachments for tilling, weeding and sowing. Several farmers in the district have caught on to the idea, and there are now close to 40 Santis in the district. It costs between Rs. 14,000-18,000, making it much cheaper than other mechanical ploughs and it performs several functions such as weeding, ploughing and sowing for an acre. Being a school dropout, Mr. Jagani in his tiny workshop, at his Mota Devaliya village, tinkered with a bullet motorcycle and converted it in

LEARN TO SHIFT GEARS

You'll probably find that shifting a motorcycle is easier than it sounds. Once you get a feel for where and the how the clutch disengages, how much throttle is required for smooth acceleration, and how much effort the shifter needs, the whole process will become easier and require less concentration. There are three basic controls to operate when it comes to shifting a motorcycle: the throttle, the clutch, and the gear selector. The throttle revs the engine, the clutch engages and disengages the transmission, and the gear selector selects the gear. Pull the clutch towards you using your left hand, and you can rev the engine without moving the bike forward. But release the clutch while the transmission is "in gear" (ie, not in neutral), and you'll move the bike forward. The gear pattern is selected by clicking a lever with your left foot, and is typically laid out as follows: 6th gear (if applicable) 5th gear (if applicable) 4th gear 3rd gear 2nd gear 1st g

Mahindra & Mahindra, the leading SUV maker in the country, stepped into the two wheeler segment after acquiring Kinetic Engineering, which it renamed as Mahindra Two-wheelers. Not too long after the acquisition, Mahindra launched its first bike Stallio 110, which was unveiled by Aamir Khan, the bollywood superstar. However, the bike could not prove to be successful, as its gearbox had technical issues. HOLLYWOOD KINGS AS RIDERS - 2

Matthew McConaughey   I first saw Matthew McConaughey on a bike in How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days. Everybody knows that motorcycles are Matthews passion. In 2007 McCanaughey teamed his love of bikes with his charity initiatives auctioning off his commemorative Texas Longhorn National Championship Tribute motorcycle when his alma mater won at the 2006 Rose Bowl. Tim Allen   Tim Allen's career has always focused on what it means to be a man, especially a man who loves power tools and making fast things go faster. It should come as no surprise that Allen is a visor-down kind of guy. In this case with a Ducati Diavel, a naked 162-horsepower machine meant to combine the comforts of touring with the performance of a sport bike. Johnny Hallyday   For a man sometimes known as the French Elvis Presley , that would be Parisian-born singer and actor Jean-Philippe Smet, better known as Johnny Hallyday -  the commanding and somewhat quirky Harley-Davidson Trike is a fitting ride. With an ove

Had no real plan and decided to retrace some of my last ride that I had to abort due to rain. Over Currumbin and zig zag around via North Arm to avoid Murwillumbah, then went to see how the view was from Baker Road on such a clear morning. And I was not disappointed.
